K18 vs. Olaplex: Which Treatment Works Best?

Looking for the best hair treatment out there? You may have heard of K18 and Olaplex, two of the most popular treatments on the market for restoring and protecting hair.  Both of these treatments are designed to help strengthen and repair damaged hair so its hard to know which one is best for you right?

Let me explain…

When it comes to choosing the best hair treatment, it’s important to consider your hair type and the specific concerns you have. Both K18 and Olaplex have their own unique benefits and are suited for different types of hair concerns.

K18 is best for those with existing damaged hair that has been over-processed or exposed to excessive heat styling. This treatment is also great for color-treated hair, as it helps to maintain the vibrancy of hair color.

Olaplex is ideal for all hair types and helps to prevent breakage and split ends, making hair more manageable and easier to style.

If you’re unsure which treatment to choose, consult with your hairstylist or consider the specific needs of your hair. If your hair is particularly damaged, K18 may be the best choice for you. If you’ve undergone chemical treatments and need to repair and protect your hair from future damage, an Olaplex treatment may be more appropriate.

To sum it up we would say K18 is for “already damaged” hair and Olaplex to “prevent damage” from happening. This means that you could really use both if you have any chemical/color/heat damage and are going to continue to color/heatstyle/get chemical services.

This is why your hairdresser may use olaplex in your colour/foils and may suggest a K18 at the basin.

Example

1 Client: Gets foiled blonde/balayage hair, feels dry/overprocessed from colour& heat styling

Suggestion: Olaplex in foils and basin to prevent further damage and K18 to repair previous damage. Also recommended to take home the K18 mask to use on the next 4 washes to restore hair.

2 Client: First time foiling hair wants to be lighter hair feels good to start. Suggests Olaplex for the lightening service to prevent breakage and take home the No.3 at home Hair perfector to prevent damage.  K18 would be a nice addition but not necessary.

3 Client: Client has trouble holding colours, hair feels dry/brittle. Suggests K18 for at home use in between appointments and to follow up with using Olaplex during colouring services.

The Science in hair products have come so far in the last 10 years. Its no wonder both of these products have made it inside so many salons with their ability to change the structure of the hair and give clients and hairdressers the chance to get back on track with their hair.
